Idaho State Legislative Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No b) Should abortions be illegal after the first trimester of pregnancy?
Yes c) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes d) Should abortion be legal when the life of the woman is endangered?
No e) Do you support requiring parental notification before an abortion is performed on a minor?
No f) Do you support requiring parental consent before an abortion is performed on a minor?
No g) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for abortion procedures?
No h) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
I believe the issue of abortion should not be legislated by the government. I am not pro-abortion. Each individual should have the ability to make that deeply personal decision with the advice of their doctor, family, or church. It is important to consider that victims of rape or incest may be minors in which "parental notification" and "parental consent" are neither safe nor feasible.

Yes k) Do you support applying sales taxes to all online purchases?
There are several ways we could increase funding for the state including but not limited to: expanding Medicaid to save local economy health dollars, save on property taxes and create jobs, increasing the minimum wage to expand spending power and tax revenue, funding public schools to ease local tax burden and create more spending power, and eliminating unconstitutional legislation that wastes tax dollars in federal legal battles. By reviewing existing appropriations, practical gains can be made by realigning our priorities.
My top priority would be to ensure our public schools are fully funded so our children are able to learn in safe, nurturing environments, our teachers are compensated for the important work they do, and our local economies are eased the burden of state deficit. I would also like to see Idaho greatly decrease our state appropriations for healthcare by participating in Medicaid expansion.
I respect the differences that exist among local communities and support a local option tax so residents are able to best determine what is necessary and appropriate to meet the needs of their communities.

Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
No b) Do you support state funding for the development of traditional domestic energy sources (e.g. coal, natural gas, oil)?

Yes d) Do you support state funding for open space preservation?

Yes f) Do you support increased regulations of the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
Fossil fuels are a finite resource. I support renewable energy options. I do not believe hydraulic fracturing is safe, even with increased regulations. Recent legislation allows for oil and gas exploration, including hydraulic fracturing, in Idaho. Public record of the geology in Idaho shows thousands of feet of shale - the optimal formation for fracking. While we may not currently have fracking wells in Idaho, there are many oil and gas leases across the state along with legislation that expressly allows for that type of extraction.

I believe that healthcare is a human right. In America, the wealthiest country in the world, we are capable of providing a standard of living where people are able to access the healthcare and medications they need. By collectively pooling resources, we obtain a greater economy of scale. We would improve the quality of life for thousands as well as the economy by expanding Medicaid in Idaho.
Yes a) Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Idaho's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Idaho's anti-discrimination laws?
All Idaho's citizens deserve protection from discrimination. I support adding the words "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" to Idaho's Human Rights Act.
1) Provide health insurance coverage for more than 78,000 Idahoans through Medicaid expansion. No funding necessary - current studies show we will save money by doing so. 2) Restore private property rights and local control diminished through preemption bills. - No funding required. 3) Fund public schools and ensure we meet our state's constitutional obligation to our children. - Funding and appropriations review required.
